![]() ![]() “On behalf of everyone associated with Perth Glory, I would like to sincerely thank Ruben for all of his hard work, commitment and professionalism, both in the academy and first team space, during what has been a very challenging couple of years for everyone involved at the club,” he said. Glory chief executive Anthony Radich thanked Zadkovich for his service and professionalism after taking over during a COVID-hit season. However, the club labelled reports an “exaggeration”, Zadkovich played it down and described it as a “non-incident” and a “witch hunt”, no complaint was made internally and the player’s union quickly ceased their investigation. Zadkovich was also at the centre of allegations he had a physical altercation with young midfielder Giordano Colli mid-season. His reign was at-times plagued by rumours of fallouts with players, including having to deny a pre-game bust-up with Ryan Williams and Mark Beevers. Zadkovich’s overall win-draw-loss record was 8-10-18 with a winning percentage of 22.22 per cent - lower only than Ron Smith in Perth’s A-League era, although it is a statistic which suffered from his interim spell, when he inherited a side with a lengthy injury list and was forced to play academy players. In his first full season in charge, the Glory won seven games, drew eight and lost 11 and finished ninth - six points off a finals spot, but also only three points above last place. He had one year remaining on the two-year deal he signed before last season. Zadkovich took over as interim manager after Richard Garcia was relieved of his duties in March 2022, before earning the gig full-time ahead of the 2022-23 season. “To wear the purple shirt as a player in past times and then to coach and manage the club has been an honour and one that I’ll always cherish.” “Perth Glory has some of the best supporters in the country in my eyes. “I’d like to thank the very dedicated group of staff members for their constant support and their amazing work ethic during my time in charge. “It has been an absolute privilege to have mentored and developed so many young, Perth-based players, to give them their debuts at professional level, helping them grow into A-League players and achieve selection in youth-level national teams. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with a wonderful group of players who have given their all to this rebuild,” he said. Zadkovich also paid tribute to the players, staff and fans. This was a difficult decision for me to make.” “I’d also like to thank the club for granting me an early release to pursue opportunities elsewhere. “This has undoubtedly been a very challenging time for the club, but we have shown a huge improvement over the last 12 months in many facets of the club’s operations and I believe that key foundations for the club’s future success have been laid. “To be given the responsibility of rebuilding the club’s football department into a competitive side again has been a very rewarding process. ![]() “Firstly, I’d like to thank the chairman Tony Sage for entrusting me with the role of head coach of Perth Glory,” he said. In a statement, the former Perth player and three-time Socceroo said it was an incredibly difficult decision.
